Icers Head Outdoors For College Winter Classic

The Penn State Icers will continue their quest to make history this season when they face off with Neumann University as a part of the Winter Classic festivities at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

The Icers (14-2-0) are ranked first nationally in the ACHA rankings, and they will play their first game of the spring semester when the puck drops at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 4th. Tickets are $10 and can be bought on the Icers website  or at the Citizens Bank Park box office before the game. All seating is general admission.

Neumann is a part of the NCAA Division III ECAC, and at 9-3 are ranked 15th in the United State College Hockey Organization’s latest poll. The Knights come in to the contest with a four-game win streak after they swept their way to the championship of the Pathfinder Bank/Oswego Classic on New Years Eve.

If you haven’t got to see the Icers play yet, this will be a great chance to do so while also seeing hockey in it’s truest form outdoors. The Icers quick, open style of play should help them as both teams like to get out and run with the puck and don’t play a whole lot of zone hockey.

Temperatures on Wednesday evening are expected to be in the high 20s to low 30s, so dress appropriately and don’t expect many delays for soft ice. Traffic on the Schuykill Expressway is always a disaster, so I suggest you leave early and make a stop at your favorite Philadelphia cheesesteak shop, whether it be Geno’s or Pat’s, or consider tailgating before what should be a classic hockey game.
