The School Philly I Know

Many of you are now familiar with the Penn State and Philadelphia sports blog known as The School Philly. Founded in August 2010 by a couple of ambitious Penn State juniors, most know them for their tendency to use the word "fuck", or for their renown PSU's Dime-a-Dozen section that profiles Penn State's hottest girls.

But just what makes these wordsmiths tick? What goes on behind bulwark walls of "The School Philly House", a remote College Avenue edifice that the founders of The School Philly and fourteen other stalwarts call home? These are the answers I sought, and so I arranged for a historic meeting to be held.

THON Announces Mandatory Canning Workshops

Yesterday evening, THON Overall Elaine Tanella released a statement declaring announcing mandatory Canning Workshops for all students who plan to participate in Canning Weekend #3. From Monday, January 16 to Wednesday, January 18, students canning will have to attend one of the 30-minute workshops (times listed after the jump). Tanella stated that the workshops will "overview safe canning practices, travel safety guidelines, general courtesy, and THON information," so as to ensure that each student is aware of and understands all canning policies.

However, why has the Overall Committee decided to institute these workshops, and is it necessary? Find out more information on the workshops and my thoughts after the jump.

WBB Get Important Win Against Michigan

The 25th-ranked Penn State women's basketball team got a big win on Thursday against a tough Michigan team. After losing its first two Big Ten home games, Penn State beat the Wolverines thanks to 22 points from Maggie Lucas and 15 from Zhaque Gray.

The Lady Lions (12-4, 2-2 Big Ten) led for most of the game, winning rather more easily than expected. Penn State shot 55.4 percent, while holding Michigan (13-4, 2-2) to just 34.3 percent. However, this win is not indicative of the Lady Lions' season so far.

Semi-Serious Analysis of O’Brien’s Coaching Staff

Five days ago, Penn State hired Bill O'Brien as its 15th football coach in program history. That means after two long months, the hard part is over right, well no, not exactly. The importance of that hire cannot be underestimated; however, sometimes even more important, is the people that a coach surrounds himself with.

Jumping into UP from a Commonwealth Campus

Did you know that 60% of all Penn State graduates started their education at a Commonwealth Campus? As part of that percentage, I took advantage of the many services and activities offered at my former campus, Penn State Altoona. It had all the same amenities as a large campus, in a more intimate setting. Upon transitioning to the University Park campus this past fall, I was ready to apply the life lessons that I had learned at Altoona, and jump right in. I quickly came to realize, however, that Penn State University Park is a campus divided.

Is UPUA Flying East to Illinois?

Listen, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to take it easy here my last semester at Penn State… have fun, Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff, all that. But then UPUA has to go ahead and spend $3,600 ON AIRFARE to send three students to Illinois.
