IST to Host Reddit Co-Founder, Others During Start-up Week

Starting April 9th, Penn State’s College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) will showcase several young entrepreneurs from the tech community. Start-up Week (April 9th-13th) will include classroom discussions on numerous tech-related topics and will serve as an opportunity and network with these various renowned entrepreneurs.

One of the twelve tech-perts that College of IST will be welcoming is Penn State alum, David Rusenko. He co-founded weebly.com, which provides the tools for anyone to create their own website or blog. More than 10 million people have created a website through weebly.com since its establishment. A 2007 graduate, Rusenko was named to Forbes’ “30 under 30” list in 2011. He will present on Thursday, April 12th at 2:30 p.m. in the IST Cybertorium.

Steve Huffman, co-founder of the wildly popular site, Reddit, will also be presenting at Start-Up Week. Reddit is a social site where users submit content, which is then voted “up” or “down” to determine the post’s rank. It was acquired by Conde Nast Publications and since has become one of the largest social news sites. In 2009, Huffman left Reddit and began designing a travel search site months later now named Hipmunk. Hipmunk is meant to streamline travel planning with features that assist flight and hotel selection.

Other entrepreneurs presenting at Start-up Week include Daehee Park and J.T. Marino of Mulu, Nick Beradi of Hoppio, and Davis Shaver of Onward State. The week will conclude with an ice cream social held at the Schreyer House on April 13th at 2:30 p.m.
