The Worst Places to Take Your Grad Photos
The Lion Shrine. The Penn State sign. Old Main. The JoePa statue. All classic locations for graduation photos. But what about some other locations on campus and in downtown State College? Onward State co-founders Eli Glazier and Evan Kalikow (along with their good friend Ethan Hirsch) embarked on a quest to take graduation photos in… less conventional locations.
Pollock Road Pylons
These things have been rustling the jimmies of pedestrians and cars for eons. Now who’s laughing?
Panda Express Line
Medium pepsi?
HUB Construction
In any other year, this would be a popular grad picture spot. But ever since construction overtook the HUB lawn, it has not gotten the respect it deserves.
Simmons Dining Hall Graveyard [GIF]
Back in the day, this spot was the parking lot for the Simmons Dining Hall (RIP). After it became a veritable grassy knoll, they never took down some of the relics of the former parking lot, such as the “Do Not Back In” sign. The Evan/Eli/Ethan triumvirate backed in. Please do not report them to the authorities.
Simmons Bathtub
Rub a dub dub, three men in a tub. Has anyone ever taken a bath in one of these? Seriously, email [email protected] if you have and want to talk about it.
HUB Parking Deck
This may be one of the most happening spots come graduation weekend.
Prospective Students Tour
We decided to hop in on this tour (shoutout to the Lion Ambassadors) and learn a thing or two about Penn State before graduation. Did you know that Penn State’s official colors are blue and white?
100 Thomas
Everyone has had a class here. Have you ever seen it this empty? Honestly, we were hoping there would be an ongoing class when we took this pic. Oh well. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. –
Calorimeter Museum
Though amber isn’t actually the color of energy, calories are energy, and calorimeters measure energy. This is surely University Park’s most overlooked museum.
Artificial Insemination Sign
Is this the best sign on campus? We think so.
Business Building CEO
The CEO statue outside of the Business building must get extremely jealous and insecure about how many people take pictures by the Lion Shrine or the JoePa statue. She deserves more respect. She’s a CEO, after all.
White Loop
What a long, strange trip it’s been. Am I talking about four years of college, or this short trip on the White Loop? You’ll never know, LOL (laughing out loud)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Zeno’s Pub [GIF]
What better way to cap off four difficult years of college than with a (very generous) shot of whiskey at Zeno’s?
Brewsky’s Bottle Shop
Nothing complements the imminent realities of the 40-hour work week than the immediate gratification of a 40-ounce malt beverage.
Have you seen any other unconventional graduation picture locations? Where were they?
