New Orleans Themed Restaurant “Duo” Set to Open

Happy Valley is about to receive a great heaping plateful of southern hospitality. Duo—a New Orleans themed restaurant—is opening soon in downtown State College. Currently, there is no exact opening date, but this upscale restaurant and bar will be taking the place of Tony’s Big Easy at 129 South Pugh Street. General Manager Rob Cleapor says Duo will be an exciting mix between a delicious restaurant and a classy bar.

Duo is unique in the fact that they have based their theme entirely off of their choice in a chef. After what Cleapor describes as “an intensive interview process”—including tastings from several candidates—Chef John Calon was the top pick.

Calon has been a chef in New Orleans for 16 years, and specializes in Cajun and Creole cooking — the two regional styles Louisiana is best known for. Deciding to root the entire concept of a restaurant based off of one chef’s background is really something, and speaks volumes of his talent. I for one can’t wait to taste what Chef Calon has to offer, and will eagerly be awaiting Duo’s opening!

IHOP: Worth The Wait (And The Weight)

Having never been to an IHOP before, I awaited it’s arrival to dear old State College with apprehension and excitement. After push back upon push back it seemed like we were doomed to be IHOP-less forever. But then suddenly, and without warning, “poof”. It appeared.
