Penn State Weekend Sports Preview

There are many different sporting events going on this weekend other than just football. Between a top-15 women’s soccer team coming into town, and the women’s volleyball team hosting the Penn State Classic, there should be plenty of opportunities to cheer on different teams.

Here’s a schedule of this weekend’s Penn State sporting events:

Friday

Men’s Soccer vs. Albany & #4 Women’s Volleyball vs. Portland: 7 p.m.

The Men’s Soccer team kicks off the weekend against Albany, as they attempt to continue their dominance on defense against the Danes. The #4 Women’s Volleyball team takes on Portland on Friday in their first match of three to be played in Rec Hall this weekend during the “Penn State Classic” tournament.

Saturday

#4 Women’s Volleyball vs. Duquesne: 10 a.m.

If you’re awake/not hung over, check out the Lions as they take on Duquesne in what should be the best match in the two day tournament. The Dukes come into Rec Hall with an 8-4 record, but also just one win in nine tries against Penn State.

Football vs. Navy: 3:30 p.m.

Saturday is Military Appreciation Day at Beaver Stadium, as the Nittany Lions take on Navy in a nationally televised game. Need I say more?

#4 Women’s Volleyball vs. Eastern Illinois: 8 p.m.

Penn State closes the weekend with an 8 p.m. game against Eastern Illinois. The Panthers serve as the final test before Penn State opens their Big Ten schedule at home against #1 Nebraska on Wednesday.

Sunday

Soccer Doubleheader

#11 Women’s Soccer vs. Wisconsin: 1 p.m. & Men’s Soccer vs. Adelphi: 3:30 p.m.

The Women’s team opens up their Big Ten season against #13 Wisconsin in the first game, and the Men’s team looks to improve on their hot start against a struggling Adelphi side.
