Shwayze Brings West Coast Flow to Happy Valley

Hip-hop filled Heritage Hall last night as part of SPA’s free Shwayze concert.

Penn State rapper, Chrystal Seth, opened the show with an unwavering energy. He even showcased his new music which resonated well with the audience.

For those who don’t know, Aaron Smith (aka Shwayze) is a 25 year old hip hop artist from California who spits rhymes about sex, weed and partying.  Shwayze has a laid back vibe to his music that reminds you of relaxing on the beach in the summer time.

2008 was the year when this hip-hop artist as well as his producer and fellow musician, Cisco Adler, took off with his self-titled album, as well as an MTV reality show. Unfortunately Adler did not make the trip and Shwayze only maintained a small degree of fanfare.  It appeared that most of his crowd was more interested in his older music than his new EPs and studio albums.  Even when he played “Roamin” from his first album, he stopped before the third verse because he was “too high” to remember the lyrics.

This full explains the career path that Shwayze has followed.  Although he has a very unique style to his rhymes, he never seemed to come off as a musician who wants to be taken seriously.
