Jerry Sandusky Returns to Centre County

Jerry Sandusky will return to the Centre Country Courthouse in Bellefonte this morning as he begins the fight for an appeal.

An evidentiary hearing has been set for 9:30 a.m. where the defense is expected to argue that they did not have enough time to prepare before trial. The defense team will look to provide evidence that proves Sandusky did not receive a fair trial as is typical for the beginning stages of the appeals process.

Sandusky is currently serving his 30-60 year sentence at Greene State Prison, which is nearly 200 miles away near Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. He was transported to his old home, the Centre County Correctional Facility in Bellefonte, sometime Wednesday afternoon.

Judge John Cleland has ruled that no reporter will be permitted to carry any electronic devices inside the courthouse. I anticipate that this will make expedited reporting somewhat difficult, but follow along with @OnwardState, @KevinHornePSU, @RBecklerPSU, and @drewBbalis throughout the day for updates as frequently as legally possible.

Hometown Brewery Releases Beer Honoring Evan Pugh

Penn State’s first president Evan Pugh was born in 1828 at Jordan Bank Farm, three miles south of the city center of Oxford, Pennsylvania, an hour west of Philadelphia in Chester County. One-hundred eighty-nine years later, an Oxford brewery is honoring one of the preeminent champions of “liberal and practical” higher education in the form of a delicious Porter.
