Lucas and Bentley Named to John Wooden Mid-Season Top 20

After combining for 35 points against Michigan on Monday night, senior Alex Bentley and junior Maggie Lucas were named to the John R. Wooden mid-season top 20 list.

The prestigious John R. Wooden award, named after the ever-famous coach at UCLA, is given out every March to the best individual player in college basketball. Previous winners of the award include Larry Bird and Candace Parker. Lucas and Bentley are two of the three Big Ten players to be nominated (Tayler Hill of Ohio State is the third) to the mid-season list.

Penn State is one of six schools to have multiple players on the list. Other teams are Baylor, Duke, Maryland, Notre Dame, and UConn, which Penn State lost to earlier this season 67-52.

Lucas and Bentley have each had a remarkable season for the Lady Lions. Lucas sits atop the country in 3-point percentage (.531) and third in the Big Ten in scoring (19.8 ppg). Bentley is second in the nation in steals (4.2) and tenth in Penn State history in scoring (1,555 points).

The Lady Lions are currently undefeated in Big Ten play (5-0) and have a 15-2 record overall. Thursday night they take on Minnesota at 6:30 p.m. in the Bryce Jordan Center.
