Distraction of the Day: American Eagle is Confused

American Eagle has already fallen out of fashion with teens, and now it probably won’t do so well with Pennsylvania college football fans, either.

The new Penn State long sleeve T-shirt looks innocent enough. Priced at $34.99, it’s probably cheaper than most quality T-shirts in AE’s store.

But wait! What the hell is that thing above the lettering?

Panther at WPU

Yes, it’s the University of Pittsburgh Panther, not our stately Nittany Lion. There are undoubtedly hundreds of well-intentioned middle schoolers out there right now who only want to support Penn State but are unsuspectingly walking around with a Pitt Panther on their chests. Good job, good effort American Eagle.

Update Aug. 29: American Eagle sent us an email sticking by its T-shirt saying that it is, in fact, a Penn State Nittany Lion taken from the archives. We’ll let you be the judge.

Hometown Brewery Releases Beer Honoring Evan Pugh

Penn State’s first president Evan Pugh was born in 1828 at Jordan Bank Farm, three miles south of the city center of Oxford, Pennsylvania, an hour west of Philadelphia in Chester County. One-hundred eighty-nine years later, an Oxford brewery is honoring one of the preeminent champions of “liberal and practical” higher education in the form of a delicious Porter.
