Penn State Set for BJC Return Against Pitt

Penn State Wrestling announced its schedule for the 2013-2014 year earlier today, highlighted by a home match against national runner-up Oklahoma State on February 16 and a dual meet vs. Pittsburgh on Dec. 8 at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The team starts on the road at the Binghamton Open on Nov. 10, followed by matches at Rider and Lehigh. The Lock Haven Bald Eagles will open the home schedule on Nov. 24.

Pittsburgh comes into State College on Dec. 8 for the first dual meet since a 2005 match against Ohio State. Pitt finished in the top 15 last year at the National Championships. It will be the 6th time ever that Penn State will wrestle in the BJC.

The Big Ten schedule starts on Dec. 15, with a home match against Ohio State, and includes visits from Purdue, Northwestern, and Illinois. The Nittany Lions make trips to Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, and Minnesota, which finished 3rd in the national championships last year. Unfortunately, due to the rotation of opponents, Iowa is not on the schedule this year.

The highlight of the year should be when national runner-up Oklahoma State makes their first trip to Happy Valley since 1996. Penn State took down the Cowboys last year 123.5-119.5 in the team finals. Oklahoma State had two individual national champions last year, including returning senior Chris Perry at 174 pounds.

After a home meet with Clarion on Feb. 23, the team heads to Madison, Wisconsin for the Big Ten Championships on March 8-9, and then the NCAA National Championships on March 20-22.
