Ed Ruth Suspended for a Month, Will Miss BJC Dual

Top-ranked wrestler at 184 Ed Ruth will miss the entire first month of the season after violating team rules, head coach Cael Sanderson confirmed today. The one month suspension includes the wrestling dual against Pitt on December 8 at the Bryce Jordan Center.

Ed Ruth apologized for his actions in a prepared statement to the media at a press conference this afternoon. Neither Ruth nor the team were able to give specifics on what violations occurred.

“Sorry about what happened,” Ruth said. “Me and the coaches are working, and I’m just trying to stay focused about everything and kind of preparing myself for whenever I can get back on the mat. It’s up to them. I’m still kind of out of the loop at this point.”

Ruth will continue to practice during his suspension. Penn State wrestles on December 15 against Ohio State, followed by the non-conference Iowa dual scheduled for December 21.

James Frascella has been wrestling in place of Ruth. Frascella lost both of his matches this weekend including one by a tech fall.

Ruth is a two-time National Champion, a three-time All-American, undefeated in conference play, and has won 68 consecutive matches.
