Four-Star Recruits Irvin Charles, Miles Sanders Commit to Penn State

It’s a big Saturday for James Franklin. Penn State picked up its 18th commit for the Class of 2015 in four-star New Jersey wide receiver Irvin Charles today, and moments later notched its first commit for the Class of 2016 in four-star running back Miles Sanders of Pittsburgh.

First, Charles (he’s on the right in the photo). A 6-foot-4, 204-pound Haddonfield native, Charles had offers from some powerhouses, including Florida, Michigan State, Ohio State, Louisville, Alabama, and Miami. He attends Paul VI High School, and is now the third wide receiver in Penn State’s Class of 2015, joining Juwan Johnson and Brandon Polk. Charles is the No. 8-ranked wide receiver from New Jersey and No. 44 in the country.

His commitment brings Penn State’s 2015 class back into the top five in the nation, as 247Sports now pegs it fourth. It’s still the No. 1 class in the Big Ten. Charles is the 11th four-star commit in the class.

Sanders, meanwhile, gets Penn State’s Class of 2016 underway. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound native of Pittsburgh runs a 4.50-second 40-yard dash, and held offers from a handful of rivals in Michigan, Nebraska, Pitt, and Temple. He attends Woodland Hills High School, and is the No. 4 running back in the state for the Class of 2016, according to 247Sports.

As always, Penn State’s coaching staff wasn’t shy about its excitement.

One commitment siren from James Franklin is always exciting, but two within 20 minutes of one another? Do work, coach.
