Former State College Psychologist Charged With Assaulting Patients

By Steve Bauer

A former State College psychologist is now facing criminal charges for allegedly having inappropriate sexual relationships with patients.

The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office says Richard Lenhart, 53, 293 Homan Ave., State College, prescribed “touching therapy” for two female patients.

According to the criminal complaint that included touching, stroking and sexual contact with both women.

Lenhart is facing multiple charges including aggravated indecent assault, deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, indecent assault and insurance fraud.

Investigators say Lenhart victimized one woman over a 17-year period, beginning in July, 1994 and continuing through Nov., 2011. The second woman was allegedly assaulted between June, 2003  and March, 2010.

An investigation began in Feb., 2011 when one of the women filed a complaint. It’s unclear why charges haven’t been filed until now.

Dr. Lenhart operated a private practice at 137 South Pugh St., State College. His license was revoked in March of last year.

The Attorney General’s office says Lenhart submitted insurance claims “using a code that would indicate he was rendering proper psychology services and treatment.”

He allegedly filed nearly 700 claims for more than $71,500.

The Attorney General’s office says this is still an active investigation. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Special Agent Doug Hilyard at 717-787-0272.

StateCollege.com was unable to contact Lenhart for a response.
