IM Building Construction Update: Phase 2 In Full Swing

Penn State hasn’t been a stranger to construction over the past few years. There’s the never-ending HUB expansion project, the South Halls renovation, the new Health and Human Development Building, the natural gas pipeline, and, of course, the Intramural Building.

So, was I the only one confused when the construction vehicles failed to leave after the giving the building a face-lift and new gym?

Fear not, things will be done soon enough. The construction of the IM Building was actually broken into two phases, and though the first phase is complete, the second is just beginning.

The first phase of the construction brought new gyms, a track, lockers, and more, but the second phase includes even more extensive renovations. The second phase started last March, and picked up steam over the summer as the back of the IM Building closed. Its renovations will include:

  • Modernized infrastructure
  • Multi-activity court
  • Gym with three basketball courts
  • Extra extension of the track
  • Accommodations for possible future expansions

The project is set to be completed by June 2015. In the meantime, the building’s contractor, Mortenson Construction, has shared a virtual tour of the project. Check out the a virtual tour below:
