Natty Nittany: Fashionable Freshmen At NSO
Summer in State College is an enjoyable time, especially since most Penn Staters are sick of the unpredictable weather the school year can bring. With winter fashion sometimes lasting right up until finals week, it’s time to take advantage of the nice weather and walk around campus. Stop and smell the flowers outside Old Main or walk by Hintz and have a conversation with one of these guys. Maybe you’ll even run into our very own squirrel whisperer on your trip. Seeing as summer also means New Student Orientation, we decided to check out what the Class of 2019 was rocking in this edition of Natty Nittany.
On her way to orientation I spotted Tara Jacobs walking toward the HUB, and you can immediately tell she was happy to be on campus. With a cute blue-and-white-patterned shirt that pops, white shorts, and some classy sandals, she pulls this summer outfit together with one of her lucky bracelets. Tara was able to rep the blue and white without having to don a typical Penn State t-shirt.
The next student to grab our attention was Marissa Miller. Coach umbrella in hand, she was prepared for the worst of Penn State’s weather, choosing an outfit that could both keep her warm and be used for two days. What caught my eye was how casual her outfit was, with a simple t-shirt, ripped jeans, and Converse, all spiced up with a nice handbag. Weather-ready and functional for the duration of her visit, Marissa chose to pack smart and stylish for New Student Orientation.
As I made my way toward Pollock, I immediately noticed Jack Davis. Sporting dark blue chino shorts and a light-blue Vineyard Vines dress shirt, including sunglasses casually folded in the neckline, Jack was dressed to impress his orientation group. What really tied this outfit was the dark brown belt and matching Sperries.
Check out Faith Hemintakoon. With a light rain jacket, dark blue patterned romper, and a white cardigan (hiding beneath her jacket), she was ready to show school pride, regardless of the weather. Toting a salmon-pink mini bag and tan Sperries, Faith was plenty prepared to meet some new people and get to know campus.
Last but certainly not least was RJ Bocado. Pulling off a very nonchalant, casual look, RJ was wearing a Hollister polo with some plaid cargo shorts. Although some may argue cargo shorts aren’t exactly fashionable (I own a pair myself and wear them proudly), you can’t deny RJ looks very comfortable in his outfit, which goes a long way since orientation lasts two days. Coupled with some Nike socks and matching white sneakers, he’s ready to join the Penn State family alongside his sister, Kirsty.
That takes care of this summer’s Natty Nittany: New Student Orientation! Think your NSO fashion is making an impression? Tweet us a picture of your outfit and tag us @onwardstate!
