Dr. Eric Bush Joins Blue Band As Assistant Director

The Blue Band family added another esteemed musician to its staff this week. Dr. Eric Bush was announced as the Assistant Director of the Blue Band.

Greg Drane’s reign as the sixth director of the Blue Band officially began July 1, but he’s been preparing for months. With the help of the Blue Band staff and the School of Music, Drane sought out a replacement to fill the position he once held as Assistant Director.

The Assistant Directors’ responsibilities include helping to organize and run the Blue Band, the Fall Athletic Band, and the Pride of the Lions Pep Band. Drane found what he was looking for in Dr. Bush and Dr. Carter Biggers, who has been with the Blue Band since 2013. Dr. Bush was a graduate assistant at the University of Iowa with the Hawkeye Marching band.

“We are excited to have Dr. Eric Bush with our program,” Drane said. “Dr. Bush brings his brass, specifically trumpet, pedagogy in addition to his extensive Jazz background and Symphonic conducting experience to the Blue Band Team of Directors. Bush will work with our team designing halftime shows and is a welcomed addition to the Blue Band family.”
