TaxSlayer Bowl President Hints At Penn State Invitation In Video

Penn State could be headed back to Florida for a bowl game for the first time since January 2011.

TaxSlayer Bowl president Rick Catlett said in a question and answer video released by the TaxSlayer YouTube account that the Nittany Lions would be a top choice to play in the January 2 bowl game, depending on where Florida State ends up.

“We’re down to a couple of groups of teams,” Catlett said. “On the SEC side, it looks like LSU or Georgia. On the ACC side, we have an option. If Florida State is available, we’ll go there, and if it’s not Florida State and we go Big Ten, than it’s probably Penn State.”

Florida State is currently 10-2 and ranked No. 9 after a 27-2 shellacking of in-state rival Florida last Saturday. The Seminoles are a popular pick to be included in the “New Years Six” bowl games as an at-large team. If the team is picked for a NY6 bowl game, it opens up a slot for the TaxSlayer Bowl to select Penn State.

The TaxSlayer Bowl — and all other bowls — will announce their selections on Sunday, December 6 after the New Years Six and College Football Playoff bowl teams are chosen.
