Defensive Coordinator Bob Shoop Visiting The University Of Tennessee

According to Fox Sports reporter Bruce Feldman, Penn State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop is visiting the University of Tennessee today.

Rumors have swirled regarding the status of Shoop, who is considered a hot commodity in college coaching circles. This isn’t the first time Shoop has been discussed at marquee programs — he spurned LSU last year before signing a $1 million deal to remain at Penn State (prompting James Franklin to tweet his trademark “#WeAre…Better” after confirming Shoop would stay) and declined Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn’s offer to discuss the school’s vacant defensive coordinator position.

Shoop shared a much different sentiment regarding his coaching status during TaxSlayer Bowl practices. “I hope that Penn State will have me forever and ever and ever,” Shoop said per SC.com’s Ben Jones. “I love being part of James Franklin’s program, I love what we’re building here and I said this millions of times, I think we’re a 30 For 30 story ready to rock and roll.”

Tennessee defensive coordinator Jan Jancek and head coach Butch Jones parted ways this offseason, and Shoop is an ideal candidate to replace him. As Shoop’s defensive numbers continue to soar in national rankings, so does his status as one of the nation’s hottest coaches.

We’ll have more on this as details emerge.
