Former Governor Tom Ridge To Speak At IST Spring Commencement
Harvard grad and former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge will speak at the College of Information Sciences and Technology’s spring commencement. Ridge was also the nation’s first Secretary of Homeland Security and was named the keynote speaker for the May 7 ceremony.
Ridge graduated with honors from Harvard and pursued a law degree at Penn State’s Dickinson School of Law in 1972. He later went onto serve as Pennsylvania’s 43rd Governor from 1995 to 2001. His next position was as the Secretary of Homeland Security under President George W. Bush, where he served from 2003 to 2005.
Ridge is also a Vietnam veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He became to first Vietnam combat veteran to be elected to the U.S House of Representatives, where he served six terms.
The College of IST’s spring graduation will be Saturday, May 7 at 3 p.m. in the Eisenhower Auditorium.
