Mike The Mailman Receives Congratulatory Letter From President Obama
“Well, this is a little overwhelming.”
A little overwhelming to say the least. Mike (Herr) the Mailman posted on his Facebook earlier that he received a retirement letter from a man who’s coming up on the end of his own job: President Obama.
“It is a pleasure to join your family, friends, and colleagues in celebrating you 48 years of Federal service and congratulating you on your retirement from the United States Postal Service,” Obama wrote in the letter. The special package, sent to Herr’s home address in Boalsburg, included the above letter as well as an Obama family picture signed by Barack and Michelle.
Throughout his tenure, Herr has received recognition for his welcoming nature and love of cookies. Not only is he a campus celebrity, but a national one after being featured by a number of outlets including “60 Minutes.” Herr announced his retirement last month and, though people have always taken time out of their day to appreciate the Mailman, there’s been a notable influx of love.
“One of my favorite things about the USPS is you can receive mail from anyone,” Herr said in the post. “Even the President of the United States. Thank you so very much, Mr. President!”
Surely as Herr’s retirement gets closer there will be more and more accolades, it will be tough to top a personal thank you from the President of the United States.
