Big Bite Wings And More, A New Chicken Joint, Is Joining Are U Hungry

Partygoers love a Fat Bitch on their way home from the frats or bars. Are U Hungry is just one of the many drunk food staples in State College. Now, the sandwich joint is getting a fowl friend — Big Bite Wings and More, a boneless chicken and wing provider, is now available from the same people who provide you a sandwich smothered in fries and mozzarella sticks.

I first noticed the new restaurant when I was on OrderUp looking for somewhere to get dinner. Upon further review, we discovered that Big Bite’s Facebook page had only been active for 23 hours and the address was the same as Are U Hungry’s.

When I stopped by the store Thursday night, there were signs advertising both restaurants, and patrons are now able to order from Big Bite’s menu the same place they would order Are U Hungry. I talked to a few of the Are U Hungry employees who explained that Big Bite is run by the same people as Are U Hungry but has a separate menu that is mostly new, with a few items expanding on what Are U Hungry already offered — primarily the wraps but also the boneless wings and new sauce flavors. The wings are hand-battered to order and the sauces are all of Big Bite’s creation. Though the new restaurant is under the same roof as Are U Hungry it’s a completely different concept, kind of like when there’s a Taco Bell and a KFC.

The other new aspect of Big Bite is that it is separate from Are U Hungry on OrderUp, so if you want a wrap from Big Bite and a sandwich from Are U Hungry you’re going to have to place two different orders online, but the up-side (at least for now) is Big Bite’s online order fee is $1 less than Are U Hungry’s ($2.99). Big Bite is more after the lunchtime crowd than Are U Hungry’s night rush, and they’re even offering free drinks and fries with any wrap or sandwich.

While the food might be coming from the same kitchen, the menus and webpages are both separate. In branding Big Bite separately from Are U Hungry, the restaurant hopes to encourage customers who associate Are U Hungry with Fat Sandwiches to order the new chicken wings and wraps.

In addition to the new chicken place, Are U Hungry employees said that the restaurant is expanding into the basement where What-A-Blast Lazer Tag used to reside. The additional square footage will serve as a preparation and staging area for Are U Hungry and Big Bite while customers will still be able to order and pick up their food at the current storefront on Sowers Street.

Will Big Bite be the next Wings Over? I didn’t get to try it so I can’t say yet, but at least now when all your friends want to go to Are U Hungry you’ll have the option to get something a little less artery-clogging than a cheese steak with onion rings, a chicken finger, and mayo.

Big Bite is open for business now but will host a grand opening at the end of August when students are back in State College. The store will reveal a new storefront as well as an updated kitchen and dining area.
