Penn State Hockey’s David Goodwin, Vince Pedrie Named To Big Ten Preseason Watch List
As if you weren’t already, you should keep an eye on Penn State hockey’s captain David Goodwin and defenseman Vince Pedrie — the pair was just named to the Big Ten’s preseason watch list.
Goodwin led Penn State with 38 points off 11 goals and 27 assists last season. He’s expected to see another successful season as a first-time captain and something of a new face to the program. Pedrie, an explosive defenseman, was a unanimous decision in the coaches’ poll. It’s an obvious choice, really — last season his 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) ranked third nationally among freshman defensemen. He also managed .69 points per game, third in the nation and first in niceness.
Preseason watch lists might not seem like a huge deal, but this is Big Ten hockey, featuring some of the finest play in the nation. Minnesota makes the most appearances on the list with four, then Ohio State with three, Penn State and Wisconsin with two, and Michigan and Michigan State with one each.
Penn State ranked fourth in the preseason poll, behind Minnesota, Ohio State, and Michigan. Wisconsin took fifth and Michigan State sits at the bottom. Penn State entered last season fourth in the coaches’ poll as well.
With all the talent rolling in this season, you should watch out for pretty much everyone on the ice, but the Big Ten coaches have spoken. Get ready for Goodwin and Pedrie, hockey world. They’ll be back October 2 against Queen’s University of Kingston, Ontario.
