Penn State Hockey Makes NCAA’s Plays Of The Week Yet Again

Another week, another Big Ten Star of the Week and NCAA play of the week for No. 19 Penn State hockey. The play of the week comes as no surprise — for those living under a rock, Penn State defeated then-No. 3 Notre Dame on the road over the weekend.

The Nittany Lions earned the number five play of the week in today’s ranking (dubbed Nice on the Ice). As expected, the play was the OT goal from Andrew Sturtz. It all started when Big Ten Star of the Week goalie Peyton Jones shuffled the puck to freshman Denis Smirnov. Smirnov sped up the ice and delivered a crisp pass to Sturtz, who drove home a 2-on-1 for the gamewinner.

Last week’s play came in at number one. This one may have been less flashy, but it was absolutely crucial.

You can relive that play and the rest of the historic game that helped pave the way for Penn State’s No. 19 spot in the nation below:

Penn State is back at Pegula this weekend for a series against Canisius. The puck drops at 7 p.m. on Friday.
