Tommy’s Asian Grill Temporarily Closed Due To “Critical Food Safety Violations”

Tommy’s Asian Grill on College Ave self described for its “modern interpretation of classic dishes and its insistence on only using high quality fresh ingredients,” was closed on Thursday, Dec. 8, after a citizen filed a complaint citing what they had felt to be “issues.”

Upon receiving the complaint, the State College Borough Division of Health and Neighborhood Services investigated and found “critical food safety violations.”

Several Yelp.com reviews for the restaurant have indicated issues with not only service and food quality, but also describing the restaurant as a “messy” and “dirty place.”

Health Officer and Supervisor of Inspections Kevin Kassab cited and closed Tommy’s Asian Grill for improper dating of foods, using expired foods, improper hand sink use, and general unclean/unsanitary restaurant conditions. After the initial closing, the restaurant was allowed to improve its conditions before receiving another inspection a couple days later.

Upon re-inspection, conditions didn’t meet the necessary standards set, meaning the restaurant will remain closed until conditions improve to fit Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture standards.
