Penn State Football Gets Noon Primetime Slot On ABC For Season Opener Against Akron

College football fans salivating over pending schedule releases rejoiced earlier today after ESPN released the week one schedule for games across the country — including some key primetime matchups. It was revealed that Penn State football’s 2017 season opener against Akron will start at noon on ABC Saturday, September 2.

Joining Penn State on the Saturday noon budget is Clemson, who hosts Kent State in Death Valley on ESPN. It comes as little surprise that the Nittany Lions earned a noon Saturday slot, as schedulers had to make way for primetime heavyweight matchups like Florida-Michigan at AT&T Stadium and Alabama-Florida State at the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Game kickoff times figure to be released as we inch closer to the start of the regular season. Given Penn State’s surging momentum coming off a two-loss season that resulted in a trip to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl, expect plenty of primetime matchups for the Nittany Lions in 2017 — which should at least include the team’s trip to Columbus to take on Ohio State.
