Gameday Coverage: No. 4 Penn State vs. Northwestern

No. 4 Penn State has the chance to secure bowl eligibility this weekend on the road at Northwestern, but could face a solid test against the Wildcats. Pat Fitzgerald’s squad comes in just 2-2 with losses to Duke and No. 9 Wisconsin, but has proven to be a challenge in the past for the Nittany Lions.

Ahead of this clash, here’s all the media and miscellaneous information you’ll need:

Television

Kickoff is scheduled for noon and you can catch the game live on ABC. Steve Levy and Brian Griese will be calling the game, with Todd McShay reporting from the sidelines.

Radio

Penn State Sports Network — Steve Jones, Jack Ham, and Derrick Williams. Local: 93.7 FM/1450 AM. Sirius: Ch. 132. XM: Ch. 196.

Weather

It’s supposed to be cloudy and in the 70s during the game with a threat of thunder storms, according to AccuWeather.

Last Time They Met

Penn State leads the all-time series 13-5, but fell in the last two meetings — including two years ago at Ryan Field for the most recent meeting when the Nittany Lions came back from 13-point halftime deficit, only to fall 23-21 on a field goal with nine seconds remaining.

Injuries

Star tight end Mike Gesicki, who leads the team in touchdown receptions with four, left the Indiana game in the first half with an undisclosed injury. James Franklin indicated Tuesday that he expects Gesicki to play and he was dressed for practice on Wednesday.

Starting right tackle Chasz Wright is working his way back from an undisclosed injury that kept him out of the Iowa game. He appeared in select series against Indiana.

Starting defensive end Torrence Brown is out for the season, Penn State confirmed on Saturday, after the Tuscaloosa, AL, native was carted off during the Georgia State game.

Cornerback John Reid injured his knee during spring ball. There is no timetable for his return.

Unfortunately, former editor Steve Connelly has graduated. Where is he now? He might be doing something related to that PR degree he got in 2019. Maybe he finally opened that sports bar named after one of his photos, the Blurry Zamboni. Or he might just be eating chicken tenders and couch surfing. Anything’s possible.
