Update 8:30 p.m.: The crash is officially cleared and I-80 westbound is reopened.

Original story: Part of Interstate 80 westbound between Clinton and Centre counties is closed Friday afternoon after a multi-vehicle crash.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reported I-80 west is closed between Exit 173 at Lamar and Exit 161 at Bellefonte. The section is expected to remain closed into the nighttime hours on Friday.

The traffic backlog from the crash, which occurred around 3:30 p.m., is “substantial,” according to PennDOT, and drivers should remain alert for slow and stopped traffic.

The traffic will likely affect thousands of people who are traveling to State College tonight for Saturday’s White Out matchup against Michigan. Fans traveling into State College should take Exit 173 in Lamar.

WJAC-TV reported that the crash occurred near mile marker 161.4 in Marion Township and involved at least two tractor-trailers.

This story will be updated as the situation develops.
