Penn State Women’s Rugby Big Ten Champions Again

Penn State women’s rugby took home the Big Ten Championship on Saturday. The 12-time national champion Nittany Lions, recently coming off their sixth consecutive national title, defended the Big Ten title once again with a 71-24 domination of Notre Dame in South Bend.

After suffering a tough 46-7 loss to Dartmouth in its first match of the fall season, the women’s rugby team came back strong to win eight of its 10 remaining matches. Penn State finishes the season 9-3 as it brings the Big Ten Title back to Happy Valley.

Since Penn State joined the Division 1 Elite division which was established in 2016, it has won both national championship games and hopes to defend the title again in the spring. Then when it takes to the sevens pitch, the squad will have the chance to win back its first Collegiate Rugby Championship since the 2015 edition of the tournament.
