Penn State DE Shane Simmons Receives Adorable Card, Thank You Video From Young Fan

Penn State football’s impact on the Happy Valley community is undeniably strong. The team’s most passionate fans — especially the younger ones — stick by the team through thick and thin. This fact of young fanhood can lead to some pretty adorable content finding its way onto the Twitter accounts of Penn State football players.

Defensive end Shane Simmons sent one lucky fan named Travis a pair of his gloves and an autographed photo to thank him for his support. In return, the young boy sent the redshirt freshman a brief video message and a card to show his appreciation for the gifts. Simmons posted the video and a photo of the card on Twitter Thursday night.

It didn’t take much effort for Simmons to send the two tweets to Travis and his family, but the gesture certainly means the world to them. Travis will get a chance to see his new friend in action for the first time in 2018 at the annual Blue-White game, which will be held on April 21.

Mikey Mandarino

In the most upsetting turn of events, Mikey graduated from Penn State with a digital & print journalism degree in the spring of 2020. He covered Penn State football and served as an editor for Onward State from 2018 until his graduation. Mikey is from Bedminster, New Jersey, so naturally, he spends lots of time yelling about all the best things his home state has to offer. Mikey also loves to play golf, but he sucks at it because golf is really hard.
