Penn State Basketball Is Favored In Vegas Against No. 8 Ohio State

Penn State basketball has recorded two wins over teams ranked in the top ten throughout the entire Pat Chambers era, but the Vegas oddsmakers are paying no mind to that. The red-hot Nittany Lions, who have won five of their last six games, are currently listed as the favorite in tonight’s game against No. 8 Ohio State by most betting sites, according to this compiled list.

The Buckeyes, who suffered their only Big Ten loss this season to Penn State at home, have won their last four games since Tony Carr’s dramatic buzzer-beater in Columbus. Keita Bates-Diop has become one of the conference’s top players, willing his team to a road victory against then-No. 3 Purdue last week. However, Ohio State enters tonight as 1.5-point underdogs by most sportsbooks, despite a perfect 5-0 road record this year.

Here’s a look at ESPN’s pick center, which lists Penn State as a 1.5-point favorite over No. 8 Ohio State.

Penn State won the first matchup between the teams back on Jan. 25, thanks to Carr’s heroics. In addition to banking in a 40-foot miracle that gave the Blue and White a thrilling upset win at the buzzer, Carr tallied 28 points, five rebounds, and five assists on the night, a performance that sparked this six-game run for the Nittany Lions.

Since the Ohio State victory, Penn State has locked down its play on the defensive end. In all four of their wins, the Nittany Lions allowed 70 or fewer points. In the loss to Michigan State, the Spartans simply started hitting all of their shots in the second half, still scoring only 76 points in the eight-point win over Penn State.

The Nittany Lions are pushing for a White Out crowd at the BJC tonight, and Chambers’s squad will have its chance to take on the first round pressure from its NCAA Tournament bubble chase at 8 p.m. on BTN.
