Penn State Hockey’s Alex Limoges Celebrates Goal By Hitting ‘Easy’ Button

No. 18 Penn State men’s hockey dismantled Minnesota at Pegula Ice Arena in the final weekend of the regular season, outscoring the Golden Gophers 10-3 to wrap up home-ice in the first round of the Big Ten tournament.

Freshman LW Alex Limoges had a huge weekend for the Nittany Lions, scoring thrice and adding an assist as Penn State closed out the regular season. Limoges’ first goal of the weekend was the final goal of Friday night’s game, collecting a Minnesota turnover right in front of the goal and wiring a shot past Eric Schierhorn. The Virginia native celebrated in style, making perfect use of one of the Roar Zone’s signs on the glass.

Limoges pressed the “Easy” button behind the goal in a celebration that summed up the evening as a whole. Penn State outshot the Golden Gophers 61-15 and dominated every aspect of the game. The freshman noticed the sign during his Pegula Ice Arena debut, but didn’t have an opportunity to utilize it until this weekend.

“That was my first goal [at Pegula] since Michigan,” Limoges said. “Once I saw that the first time I played here, I knew at some point I had to try to hit that. It just happened to work out; the puck popped out, I scored, it was 5-to-1, but I didn’t think about the score that much.”

Limoges, who leads the freshman class with 18 points in 33 appearances, opened the scoring on Saturday night. He cut through Minnesota’s defense and rifled a shot through the legs of goaltender Mat Robson, but his celebration was certainly not as elegant as Friday’s.

The freshman was hooked by a defender and lost his balance, tumbling to the ice as he celebrated his sixth goal of the season. He acknowledges the fact that it could have been karma for pressing the Easy button on Friday.

“You know, it could’ve been [karma],” Limoges said with a smile. “[Tonight’s celebration] was definitely not the way I planned it. I fell, but I think I made the most of it, I fell gracefully or something like that.”
