Penn State Hosting Town Hall Ahead Of Graduate Student Union Election

Penn State is making school provost Nick Jones and graduate school dean Regina Vasilatos-Younken available to students in a town hall meeting March 13 focused on graduate student unionization.

The town hall will be held in Room 22 of the Biobehavioral Health Building 5:30-6:30 p.m. the Tuesday after spring break. Jones and Vasilatos-Younken will have discussion topics prepared. Students can submit questions anonymously to [email protected] prior to or during the town hall.

The event happens in the run up to Penn State’s graduate union elections, which are tentatively scheduled for April 10-13. Penn State graduate students earned the right to vote on unionization in February after the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board ruled that the school’s graduate assistants have union rights under the Pennsylvania Employee Relations Act.

The university has previously stated that it does not view graduate students as employees, but has focused on encouraging students to educate themselves on the topic following the PLRB ruling. The graduate school has also notified those eligible to vote in April’s elections via email.

Maybe he finally opened that sports bar named after one of his photos, the Blurry Zamboni. Or he might just be eating chicken tenders and couch surfing. Anything’s possible.
