Delays Likely As North Atherton Street Construction Continues

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) issued another update on the North Atherton Street project on Thursday.

Delays are likely as work continues from West Aaron Drive to West North Hills Plaza. A long-term traffic pattern for the project will close the right lane headed towards Penn State’s campus as crews upgrade the existing drainage, sewer line, and waterline systems. Drivers will not be allowed to turn left in the work zone.

When the contractor is not working, two lanes will be open for inbound and outbound traffic, and a detour for Aaron Drive that directs drivers to Viaro Boulevard will continue. Crews will also continue work from North Hills Plaza to Park Avenue through the month of June as part of this phase of the project.

The $12.8 million project began in March and will continue until 2019. In addition to the improvements to drainage, waterline, and sewer line systems, the project will improve curbing, sidewalks, ADA ramps, and traffic signals along with a new concrete median and paving.
