Trace McSorley Unanimously Selected To Big Ten Preseason Honors List

Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley was named to the Big Ten’s Preseason Honors list ahead of the conference’s media day on Monday.

Five players from each of the Big Ten’s divisions were selected to appear on the list, but McSorley is the only one to be voted onto it unanimously. Michigan State QB Brian Lewerke Jr., Ohio State standouts Nick Bosa Jr. & J.K. Dobbins, and Michigan’s Rashan Gary Jr. round out the Big Ten East’s representatives.

This is McSorley’s second consecutive appearance on the Preseason Honors list; he and Saquon Barkley made last year’s list following their breakout 2016 season. Penn State has now featured on this list in each of the past three years, as Barkley was voted on prior to that 2016 season.

The Ashburn, VA, native has thrown a touchdown in 28 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the FBS. Additionally, he’s just one of seven quarterbacks in conference history with over 3,000 passing yards in consecutive seasons.

McSorley and former Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett are the only two signal callers in Big Ten history to pass for 25 touchdowns and rush for ten in the same season. He holds the program records for passing touchdowns (59) total offense (8,268 yards), completion percentage (61.8), and passing efficiency (159.2).

The Nittany Lions will open the 2018 season against Appalachian State in just 40 days. The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. and is the first of Penn State’s seven home games this season.
