No. 7 Penn State field hockey (12-4, 6-2 Big Ten) denied Bucknell (8-7, 3-2 Patriot League) on Tuesday evening with a 5-0 victory in its final regular season game.

Abby Myers, Anna Simon, Katie Dembrowski, and Moria Putsch all found the back of the net for the Nittany Lions. Penn State dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Bucknell 21-8 and winning the penalty corner battle 11-2.

How It Happened

Moria Putsch found herself in alone on a breakaway and dribbled to the right corner before passing the ball off to Abby Myers less than a minute into tonight’s game. Myers pulled the ball around Bucknell’s goalie and found the back of the net to give her team an early lead.

Putsch and Myers connected again with 17 minutes left in the first half. The senior attacker looked for open space inside the circle and easily found Myers, who tapped the ball in the net and boosted the Nittany Lion lead to 2-0.

Penn State was awarded a penalty corner with two minutes left in the first half. Putsch found fellow attacker Aurelia Meijer at the top of the circle, but she passed it off to Katie Dembrowski. The senior drove the ball into the back of the net to extend Penn State’s lead to three goals.

Early in the second half, Penn State earned another corner and Putsch inserted the ball to the top of the circle. Anna Simon took a shot but it bounced off the goalie. Putsch caught the rebound and swept the ball into the net, giving her seven goals for the season.

Putsch sent the ball to Madison Morano right inside the circle who faked right and sent it to Simon with 27:47 left in the second half. Simon drove the ball directly into the back board making it her eleventh goal this season.

The Nittany Lions saw out the rest of the game by stifling Bucknell’s attack and consistently putting pressure on the Bisons’ defense. Penn State closes its regular season with a 12-4 record, earning home-field advantage in the Big Ten tournament beginning on Sunday afternoon.
