Penn Staters Roast New Michigan State Football Uniforms
While most Penn Staters were tailgating before the Blue-White Game Saturday morning, Michigan State revealed new alternate uniforms for the 2019 season. And they were one big “Sparty, No!”
Michigan State’s new jerseys are fittingly as ugly and hodgepodge-looking as the Land Grant Trophy. They feature a neon “STATE” wordmark across the chest and plenty of lime green accents, including an unnecessarily bright pair of pants. The Spartan logo is scattered all over the new uniform, from the helmet all the way down to the thigh. Why? Your guess is as good as ours.
Uniform-purist Penn Staters had a few things to say about the Spartans’ bad bold new look and were not very forgiving.
At first glance, it’s pretty easy to confuse Michigan State’s new uniforms with Oregon’s. The bright green hues are standard for Oregon, and the Ducks have really owned that “mod” look during the past few decades.
While Michigan State set out to create a fun alternate ensemble, the Spartans ended up looking more like a pack of Double Mint gum.
Perhaps joking about 76ers point guard Ben Simmons’ rough showing against the Nets Saturday helps ease the pain for the large contingent of Penn Staters from “right outside of Philly” (It doesn’t).
Michigan State’s new look may seem like it’s part of an elaborate April Fools’ joke, but that was two weeks ago.
Even former Penn State football star Allen Robinson, who knows a thing or two about the minimalist beauty of Basic Blues, couldn’t help but join in on the hate.
If Penn Staters’ initial reactions were any indication, get ready for a fun week on the Internet if the Spartans break out these new threads when the two teams meet this fall.
