Connor McGovern Drafted No. 90 Overall By Dallas Cowboys

Penn State football offensive lineman Connor McGovern was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

The offensive lineman was named a third-team All-Big Ten selection and Penn State’s most outstanding offensive lineman for his play as a junior in 2018.

McGovern started 35 games for the Nittany Lions during his three seasons in Happy Valley, but those starts didn’t all come at the same position. He started nine games at right guard as a freshman and 13 games at center in his sophomore year.

He made 12 appearances at right guard and one game at center in his final season with the Nittany Lions. It should come as no surprise that his versatility on the offensive line made him an attractive option in this year’s draft.

McGovern’s draft stock was likely boosted by an impressive performance at the NFL Scouting Combine. He finished tied for ninth among offensive linemen with 28 reps on the bench press and also posted a 7.66-second three-cone drill. McGovern finished ninth in the 20-yard shuttle with a time of 4.57 seconds, and his 9’4″ broad jump was the eighth-best among offensive linemen.

McGovern will join a powerful offensive line in Dallas that’s paved the way for Ezekiel Elliott to become a star. He is the first Penn State offensive lineman to be drafted since Donovan Smith in the second round in 2015.
