Trace McSorley To Wear No. 7 With Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens announced their new batch of rookies’ jersey numbers on Friday morning, including Trace McSorley. McSorley will wear No. 7 as his first rookie camp as an NFL quarterback gets underway.
McSorley became a Penn State legend while wearing No. 9 during his time in Happy Valley, but that number is already occupied on the Ravens. Starting kicker Justin Tucker wears No. 9, so the quarterback switched back to his old high school number.
While wearing No. 7, McSorley had a stellar high school career with Briar Woods in Ashburn, Virginia. The team won its first three state titles with McSorley running the offense, and he chipped in 10,065 passing yards and 111 scores through the air. McSorley also ran for 2,005 yards and added 38 touchdowns with his legs, which showcased the dual-threat abilities that made him so exciting in college.
James Franklin’s decision to leave Vanderbilt for the Nittany Lions in 2014 complicated McSorley’s recruitment a bit, but he eventually decided to flip to Penn State and stick with the coach he committed to in July 2013. Five years, 9,899 passing yards, 31 wins, and a Big Ten championship later, McSorley was selected by Baltimore in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said the Ravens could potentially use McSorley, who’s currently projected to be Baltimore’s third-string quarterback behind Lamar Jackson and Robert Griffin III, in a number of ways similar to Taysom Hill’s situation with the New Orleans Saints. For now, however, his first NFL camp is underway.
