Keith Griffith Named Blue Band’s 60th Drum Major
Well, folks. It appears the Frisbie dynasty has officially come to an end.
The Penn State Blue Band named trumpet player Keith Griffith its next drum major Friday afternoon. He previously served as a trumpet guide, a leadership role for the band’s highest-ranking instrumentalists, and is a fifth-year student studying engineering science.
“As a former trumpet guide, Keith brings pivotal leadership experience in this unique time,” the Blue Band wrote on Twitter.
Griffith will succeed Jack Frisbie, the Blue Band’s 59th drum major, who graduated this past spring. Frisbie famously followed his brother, Jimmy, who flipped his way to become the band’s 58th drum leader a few years prior.
At this time, it’s unclear exactly when we’ll see the Blue Band take the field next. Penn State Athletics has already confirmed fans won’t be attending games at Beaver Stadium this fall, and with a current 250-person capacity at outdoor gatherings, it’s doubtful the Blue Band would be seen in Section SD anytime soon.
