SPA To Host DJ Diesel/Shaquille O’Neal For Virtual Concert August 20

Penn State’s Student Programming Association (SPA) will host DJ Diesel, better known as former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal, for a virtual concert Thursday, August 20.

Diesel’s performance will kick off at 8 p.m. that night and be held through a Zoom session hosted by WPSU Radio and Penn State’s World Campus. Students interested in attending the virtual concert can sign up and register using this link.

O’Neal began DJing under his stage name in 1993, when he released his debut album, “Shaq Diesel,” which received platinum certification. Over the years, he’s released five studio albums and is the only athlete to double as a platinum recording artist.

According to SPA’s release, Diesel’s sound is inspired by other notable artists such as Skrillex and Steve Aoki and features a blend of hip-hop, trap, and electronic tones. He’s performed at a number of notable venues, including festivals like TomorrowWorld and Life in Color.

Outside of his music career, you might know O’Neal from time in the NBA. The four-time NBA champion took the game by storm for nearly 20 years en route to a Hall of Fame career with the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, and more. Since retiring in 2011, O’Neal has dabbled in acting, advertising, business ventures.

Like every SPA event, Diesel’s performance is free for all Penn State students and funded by their student-initiated fees. They’ll need to verify themselves using their WebAccess IDs before accessing the event.
