Penn State To Virtually Host New Student Convocation August 22
Penn State will virtually welcome first-year students at its annual New Student Convocation event Saturday, August 22, the university announced Tuesday morning.
The hour-long event is set to kick off at 8 p.m. that night. University Park and World Campus students, as well as their parents and families, are encouraged to watch along as President Eric Barron officially greets the university’s newest students.
Barron will be joined by a number of high-profile administrators, including Provost Nick Jones and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Kathy Bieschke.
The event will also feature remarks from a number of student speakers, including UPUA President Zach McKay, Black Caucus President Nyla Holland, and World Campus Student Government Association President Sean Walsh.
Additionally, Penn State College of Arts and Architecture students will perform throughout the event. Convocation will conclude with a “special presentation” of the Old Main chimes.
Although this year’s festivities will be held online due to the coronavirus pandemic, students won’t miss out on the chance to pick up their infamous Convocation t-shirts. First-year students can pick up their shirts in the HUB’s Alumni Hall from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 18 through Friday, August 21, and from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 22. Just make sure not to wear them weeks later.
Convocation is just one part of Penn State’s upcoming Welcome Week. To learn more about arrival, orientation, pep rallies, and more, head over to Penn State’s Welcome Week site.
