Penn State To Host Select Welcome Week Events Virtually

Penn State will move a few of its annual Welcome Week events online in the coming weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic, the university announced Tuesday.

On Sunday, August 23, Penn State’s Lion Ambassadors will host their annual “Be A Part From The Start” pep rally. The event will be streamed via a live broadcast starting at 8 p.m. that night and feature activities that’ll help the university’s newest Nittany Lions learn Penn State’s fight songs.

Athletic coaches, the Blue Band, and various clubs and organizations will make special appearances during the broadcast.

Later, the Blue & White Society will virtually host its signature event, “BASH,” starting Monday, August 24 through Friday, August 28.

The event will kick off at 11:30 a.m. Monday and last through 1:30 p.m. with a “Top 10 Things All Penn Staters Should Know” presentation hosted by the Lion Ambassadors. Students can learn about Penn State culture and traditions with information ranging from the Berkey Creamery to the best places to take pictures on campus.

There will also be an involvement panel from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26 with organizations, including the Lion Ambassadors, Black Caucus, THON, Homecoming, and Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity.

The events on Thursday, August 27 are as follows:

  • 12 to 3 p.m. — Five-minute keepsake digital caricature event hosted by the College Agency
  • 4 p.m. — Interactive session with Rain Dove, an LGBT advocate and supermodel
  • 7-8:30 p.m. — Trivia night

Details on other virtual Welcome Week events, including New Student Convocation, can be found here.
