3/20 Coalition To Host Protest & Teach-In August 29

The State College community will unite once again this weekend to protest police brutality, speak out against racial injustice, and educate community members.

The 3/20 Coalition, a local advocacy group, will host a march and teach-in starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 29 at the Allen Street Gates. The event hopes to educate individuals on the issues the Black community faces and generate support for tackling them head-on.

The protest follows a week of social unrest in response to the shooting of Jacob Blake, prompting professional athletes to go on strike.

Attendees are asked to maintain social distancing and wear masks at all times. The event will also provide free food to those who take part.

The 3/20 Coalition has led protests throughout the summer in the wake of George Floyd’s death. The organization hosted similar weekly teach-ins throughout July.

The group formed following the death of State College resident Osaze Osagie. Osagie was fatally shot in his home by a State College police officer serving a mental health warrant back in March 2019. Since then, the group has hosted multiple protests against police brutality and in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

If you’re unable to join the coalition’s protest, consider taking a look at other ways to get involved with these movements, including signing petitions and other fundraisers.
