Penn State Athletics, Big Ten Launch Voter Registration Initiative

Penn State Athletics is helping promote civic engagement through its participation in the Big Ten Voter Registration Initiative.

The campaign is a conference-wide non-partisan collaboration that encourages students and student-athletes to take part in the electoral process. Through a slew of handy resources, it implores them to become active in the community and get informed about the election.

Athletics’ dedicated voter registration website has helpful links to help students get registered to vote, check on their status, and learn more about the entire process. There are also resources to give them insight on absentee voting and definitions for every election-related term that might cross your mind.

James Franklin joined Penn State football’s players and staff in supporting the initiative on social media Tuesday.

Penn State’s support for the initiative comes on National Voter Registration Day, which is annually celebrated on the fourth Tuesday of September. The university’s libraries are hosting an event in recognition of the occasion to connect students with voter registration resources as well.

Earlier this week, Franklin and former Penn State running back Miles Sanders appeared in a TV spot encouraging Pennsylvanians to vote in the upcoming presidential election.

Pennsylvanians have until October 19 to register to vote and until October 27 to request an absentee ballot. Ballots in Pennsylvania must be cast by 8 p.m. on November 3.
