Former Penn State Hoops Star Mike Watkins Signs With Cimarrones Del Chocó

Former Penn State men’s basketball forward Mike Watkins has signed his first pro deal with the Cimarrones del Chocó in Colombia.

The Nittany Lions shared the news in a statement Wednesday.

“Playing basketball professionally is a dream come true for me and my goal is to continue to work hard at the next level,” Watkins said “I am grateful to the Cimarrones del Choco for providing me with this opportunity and I look forward to contributing on the court and in the community.

“There are so many who have supported me as I went after this with everything I had and I share this success with them!,” Watkins added.

The Philadelphia native was a staple down low for the Nittany Lions for several seasons. Watkins ended his time in Happy Valley as one of three players all-time to rack up 900 career rebounds — second-all-time with 953 — and 1,169 career points. He also ranks second in all-time career blocked shots with 265.

Watkins intends to join his new team in Quibdó, Colombia in early October.
