State College Mom Appears On ABC’s Joe Biden Town Hall

State College residents might’ve seen a familiar face while tuning into ABC’s live town hall with Joe Biden Thursday night.

Toward the end of the broadcast, State College resident Mieke Haeck received a chance to ask the former vice president a question. Haeck, a local physical therapist and “proud mom” of two daughters, one of whom is transgender, asked Biden how he’d protect LGBTQ rights if elected.

“I will flat-out just change the law and eliminate those executive orders [that threatened LGBTQ rights],” Biden said. “There should be zero discrimination…I promise you there is no reason to suggest that there should be any right denied to your daughter that your other daughter has the right to be and do. None. Zero.”

Haeck said she raised her question in response to recent “attacks” on transgender rights, such as bans on military service, weakened protections, and removed transgender terms from government websites.

Haeck currently works as a physical therapist at Atlas Therapy Inc. in State College with 19 years of experience under her belt. She’s also a member of the borough’s Transportation Commission.

“Thank you, Mieke Haeck, for serving and using your voice both locally and now nationally,” the borough said on Twitter Friday morning.

Both Biden and President Donald Trump hosted dueling town hall events on ABC and NBC, respectively, Thursday night.
