Penn State Football’s Pat Freiermuth Named To Big Ten Preseason Honors List

The Big Ten released its preseason honors list Friday night, which included five players each from the East and West Division.

Penn State football tight end Pat Friermuth was the Nittany Lions’ only representative on the list. The star pass-catcher has dominated through his first two seasons in Happy Valley, as he’s hauled in 69 catches worth 875 yards and 15 scores through his career.

Despite rumors that he might opt out for his junior season, Freiermuth is set to play for James Franklin’s squad this fall and has high expectations. The tight end, who hails from Merrimac, Massachusetts, earned several honors during this extended offseason. In July, he was named to the John Mackey and Biletnikoff Award watch lists.

Michigan’s defensive end Kwity Paye also made the list for the Eastern Division. Ohio State finished this list with three players, including quarterback Justin Fields, cornerback Shaun Wade, and guard Wyatt Davis.

Freiermuth was the only tight end included on the list, while other notable mentions were Minnesota quarterback Tanner Morgan and wide receiver Rashod Bateman, along with Purdue’s Rondale Moore.

The dominant tight end and the rest of the Nittany Lions will kick off their season against Indiana at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 24 in Bloomington.
