Transfer Portal Roundup: Week Eight

Football is the last thing anybody in State College wants to think about right now. After all, Penn State took the field for the first time in 300 days only to lose 36-35 to unranked Indiana Saturday.

While Nittany Nation is pissed at its current team, let’s take a look at how some former Penn Staters fared around the country.

Zech McPhearson, Texas Tech

The Zech McPhearson train is still rolling down in Texas. McPhearson recovered a West Virginia fumble and ran over half the field for the game-winning score. Texas Tech triumphed 34-27 over the Mountaineers.

It was McPhearson’s second touchdown of the year following his 90 yard field goal block return versus Iowa State two weeks ago. He also had three tackles on the day.

The Red Raiders will face No. 24 Oklahoma on Saturday.

Daniel Joseph, NC State

Joseph notched two tackles, one being a sack, for his squad this past weekend. The Wolfpack fell to in-state rivals No. 14 North Carolina 48-21.

The No. 23 NC State Wolfpack remains ranked but falls to 4-2 on the season. Joseph’s squad has a bye week on Saturday before playing No. 12 Miami on November 6.

John Petrishen, Pitt

Petrishen produced four tackles in Pitt’s blowout loss to No. 3 Notre Dame. Pitt struggled offensively without quarterback Kenny Pickett for a second straight game.

The final score was 45-3. Pitt has a bye before traveling to play Florida State on November 7.

Justin Shorter, Florida

Shorter and the Florida Gators did not take the field this past weekend. Their game versus LSU was postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak among Florida’s football program.

Florida head coach Dan Mullen called for the swamp to be fully packed with 90,000 fans following the Gator’s loss to Texas A&M last week. He fell about 90,000 fans short of his goal.

Florida should be back on the field versus Missouri on Halloween.

DJ Brown, Louisiana Tech

Brown didn’t appear on the stat sheet for Louisiana Tech this past weekend. The Bulldogs lost a close game to UTSA 27-26. They’ll face UAB on Saturday.
