[Photo Story] On-Campus Parking Decks Views

Being cooped up inside with online classes and the cold weather quickly approaching has its perks, but you’ll need to go outside at some point to avoid catching another dangerous disease: cabin fever.

When you’re out on a walk, sometimes you need to stop and look around at everything going on. What better way to do so than to venture to the top of one of the four parking decks found across the Penn State campus?

Each deck has its own benefits, but it’s best to study up on the sights you’re trying to see on your adventure outside before stepping outside. Here are some of our favorite views.

East Parking Deck

Offering some of the best views east campus can give you, the East Parking Deck is a fan favorite for many students across campus.

Maybe it’s the way the sun hits Mount Nittany, the close view of the East Halls quad and Beaver Stadium, or perhaps even the Katz Building with a busy Park Avenue stoplight in front. Whatever it may be, the East Parking Deck has something for everyone.

Eisenhower Parking Deck

Eisenhower Parking Deck, much like the East Parking Deck, offers good views of a set of halls on campus, along with Mount Nittany.

With the hustle and bustle of foot traffic along Curtin Road and around South Halls, there’s plenty of people watching to be done. If that sounds like it’s up your alley, the Eisenhower Parking Deck might just be the one for you.

HUB Parking Deck

The HUB Parking Deck doesn’t have much to offer on the surface, as one side has a view of the rooftops of Atherton Hall and the White Building, while another has a rather boring view of the Grange Building.

These views may sound rather unappealing, but the view of the HUB and Old Main all in one frame is a sight to behold at the right time of day.

Shortlidge Road runs adjacent along the parking deck, as well, offering a great opportunity to watch the traffic pass between you and South Halls.

Nittany Parking Deck

As a West Halls resident myself, I need to say that Nittany Parking Deck is the place to be as day turns to night.

You get a good look at some State College landmarks, like Old Main and Mount Nittany, during golden hour. With the Ford Building, you can even see plenty of colors after the sun goes down, as they directly reflect off the windows of the building.

If watching sunsets and seeing pretty colors are your thing, taking a trip to the Nittany Parking Deck at sunset will never be a bad idea.
